Perfectly preserved Elizabethan fortifications, the most complete bastioned town defences in Northern Europe, providing an insight into the turbulent and bloody history of this small border town. From the walls enjoy the fine Georgian architecture of the town with its pantiled roofs and high chimneys, and stunning views out to sea, the pier and lighthouse.
